1. Umbrellas staying wet for a long period of time
Why the bug exists: The material that umbrellas are made of do not allow them to dry quickly so it stays wet longer causing it to make everything else wet in the process.
2. Zephyrhills water bottles are hard to open
Why the bug exists: The water bottles are hard to open because of the smaller water bottle caps that are implemented. This causes them to be harder to open and can cause minor hand injuries or worse, you can’t open the water bottle at all
3. Built up oil and dirt on iPhone screen
Why the bug exists: When using your iPhone for a long period of time oil and dirt build up on the screen and can be hard to see. Then the oils transfer to our face causing us to break out and then excess oil gets back on the phone.
4. White T-Shirts are only good for couples uses
Why the bug exists: The fabrics that white T-shirts attract dirt much easier and are harder to clean. After wearing them a couple times you pretty much cannot wear them anymore
5. Low amount of charging outlets in Libraries
Why the bug exists: When these libraries were built they didn’t think about how many students would be using laptops and phones in the future. So the idea to have a bunch of charging outlets was not considered.
6. UF choosing smaller study spaces to be 24/7
Why the bug exists: Libraries at UF that are 24/7 cost more to keep open. So SGA made the executive decision decided to keep Newell hall 24/7 because it is more affordable than keeping the traditional libraries 24/7.
7. Little Bites containing fewer portions: Use to be 5 per pack now it's 4
Why the bug exists: The company that makes Little Bites know how delicious their small snacks are so they decided to include fewer portions so that customers buy more.
8. Reheated food does not taste as good
Why the bug exists: Microwaves are not built to make reheated food taste fresh as if it was just made. In addition, leftover food is dry so the heat from the microwaves makes the texture of the much dryer.
9. People who leave hair in the shower drain
Why the bug exists: Shower drains are built to let water and soapy products drain out. When people wash their hair or shave, hair will get stuck in the drains and buildup.
10. Waiting for someone to take their laundry out the washer or dryer
Why the bug exists: When people wash their clothes they tend to forget they have clothes in the washer. Because of this, it sits in the washer all day. Also, some people forget to set timers on their phones so they know to come to get their clothes.
11. Meal plan not working at Chik-Fil-A
Why the bug exists: Because Chik-Fil-A has superior quality food compared to the rest of the restaurants on campus, UF dining services may be afraid that students would only eat here and not try other restaurants.
12. Apple making you use an adapter to use headphones for newer iPhones
Why the bug exists: Apple wants its newer devices to use its new lightning connector instead of the traditional headphone jack that is on most phones. Apple loves making their products unique and different from competitors so this feature is something else they can talk about.
13. The lack of diverse restaurants on-campus
Why the bug exists: UF dining services does not partner with a lot of food companies so when walking around campus you tend to see the same restaurants. For example, there are about 4 Chik-Fil-A’s on campus, not counting the new one right across from the business school.
14. Phone batteries lose energy very quickly
Why the bug exists: Phone manufacturers have not invested in new batteries that can last longer. The same lithium-ion batteries in our cell phones have been around since 1991, and over time they have gradually made them better. However, nothing new has been invented since
15. Accidentally liking a post on social media:
Why the bug exists: Because of the way that phone screens are made, the screens are really sensitive to touch. As a result, when scrolling through social media your device can mistake a scroll as a double tap on a post.
16. On-Campus Dining stops making quality food as the school year progresses
Why the bug exists: During preview parents and students are treated to excellent dinner and lunch at Broward dining. However, when the school year comes around the food quality starts to decrease. This may be a result of a lower budget or lack of quality chefs.
17. Apartments that make residents also pay for parking
Why the bug exists: Some apartments that want to earn more revenue have their residents pay to park on their property. Sometimes this is because they want to earn money back from building a parking structure.
18. When certain stores force you to pay a minimum of $5 to use a credit card: they lose money etc etc
Why the bug exists: When you use a debit or credit card, stores are charged small fees for that usage. While bigger stores can afford this, some smaller and locally owned stores cannot. Because of this, they lose money which is why they have minimum fees of at least $5. If you bought an item that was $1 they would barely make any profit from it.
19. When the gym is packed during back-to-school and after New Year’s
Why the bug exists: August and January are times when the gym is packed for a variety of reasons. In August, new students arrive at college and they do not want to gain the freshman 15. However, some people in January want to fulfill their New Year’s resolution if either getting bigger or losing weight. Also, some are trying to get the perfect Spring or Summer body.
20. The lack of sanitation near gas pumps:
Why the bug exists: When you have people all day touching gas pumps, you would think gas stations would include some sort of sanitation outside after someone is done pumping gas. However, some gas station may use this as a way for people to come inside to wash their hands or buy sanitizer from inside the store. This way once they’re inside they may buy something. It’s a gross marketing tactic.
Reflection: When I first started this assignment I already had a few bugs in mind. But after the 5th bug I really to think about the small things that not only annoy me, but annoy others. Once I started to think in that mindset the assignment went from difficult to easy. Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment because I thought about different bugs and solutions that could maybe become a product one day.
